Meet the studio Kumar La Noce

Let's discover together the design choices with which the Kumar La Noce studio has captured the essence of modern Indian culture and society, suspended between tradition and innovation, in the shapes and colours of the Bindoo collection.

- What is the concept of the Bindoo Collection and why did you choose to develop it with altreforme?

Bindoo is a series of modular mirrors built on pure, graphic geometries—circles within squares and triangles, defined by precise metalwork and bold color contrasts. The pieces are crafted from sheets of aluminum, shaped to create depth and a play between material surface and reflection. The mirror’s circular core sits within a softly raised frame, creating a strong visual relationship between color, geometry, and light.
The name draws from the bindu, the Indian concept of the point or circle as the origin of creation. We interpreted this element in formal and spatial terms, using it as a starting point to explore balance, proportion, and composition. Each module can stand alone as a statement piece or combine endlessly to form compositions or mirrored tapestries that shift and shimmer with light and movement.
Collaborating with altreforme allowed this vision to take form with extraordinary precision. Their mastery in aluminum forming enabled us to achieve the sculptural purity, crisp detailing, and luminous finish that define Bindoo’s identity.

- Do you think that using just aluminium for this collection had a significant impact on the final design?

Absolutely. Aluminum defines both the form and spirit of Bindoo. Its lightness and versatility made it possible to sculpt and raise the shapes subtly, giving the pieces a refined, monolithic quality. It enabled a clarity of line and proportion that is fundamental to Bindoo’s geometry.
Aluminum also responds beautifully to light and finish, amplifying the mirror’s reflective quality with the surrounding color fields. Rather than being neutral, the material becomes an active part of the visual experience.

- Do colors and their combination play a relevant role in the experience of this collection? If yes, why?

Color is a key structural element of Bindoo. Each module is defined by bold, unexpected pairings and a contrast between the reflective mirror and its vividly colored frame. The combinations of multiple modules produce visual rhythms, linking color, form, and reflection into cohesive compositions.
Color here is both an emotional and spatial tool. It transforms the object’s character depending on how the light hits it, creating a constantly shifting perception. The exuberant palette recalls the vivid yet unselfconscious colors of Indian streets while reinforcing the collection’s graphic strength: Joyful, contemporary, and deeply sensorial.

- Based on your professional experience as both a designer and architect, what is the added value brought by altreforme in the concept and development of design projects?

altreforme brings a rare combination of technical capability and design sensitivity. Their understanding of aluminum as a medium, how it can be formed, finished, and detailed opens up new possibilities for experimentation.
As designers and architects, we value that level of collaboration. With Bindoo, their precision engineering allowed us to achieve a sculptural quality while maintaining the purity of the concept. They understand how to bridge the gap between idea and production, which is what ultimately gives a project its integrity and coherence.
