After more than a year of working side by side on Pollock, an exclusive bar cabinet presented at Milan Design Week 2025, altreforme interviewed architect Francesca Aletti about her creative experience.
- Based on your professional experience as both a designer and an architect, what is the value brought by altreforme to the design and development of Pollock?
altreforme brought to Pollock the ability to combine advanced technology and craftsmanship. Their expertise in aluminium processing, together with Valentina Fontana's vision, made it possible to create an iconic and functional product, with the tailor-made care that only a company with these skills can guarantee. Teamwork, including with Alfa Project, made it possible to shape not only the object, but also its identity.
- Why did you decide to work with a material such as aluminium? Do you think choosing this material influenced your design?
I chose to collaborate with altreforme, and in particular with Valentina Fontana, a forward-thinking and creative person, capable of transforming aluminium into a material of value and elegance. Aluminium was a design constraint, but also an extraordinary opportunity: it is light, resistant, recyclable and incredibly versatile. This nature directly influenced the design of Pollock, making it bold, customisable in its details – from the knobs to the colours – and fully contemporary. Its robustness is guaranteed by the careful engineering of the shell, which makes it a piece destined to last over time.
- What is the strength of your product? Has the support of altreforme helped to make it desirable?
‘Every day is truly another ride on the merry-go-round,’ wrote Tiziano Terzani. Pollock was inspired by the iconic carousel, a symbol of sharing and light-heartedness. It is a piece of furniture that fits naturally into both playful and classic, refined settings, offering originality, sophistication, lightness and cheerfulness. It is a tribute to conviviality and the ability to transform every moment into a special occasion. In this sense, Pollock is not just a piece of furniture, but an iconic and sculptural object, a symbol of style and sociability. The support of altreforme was decisive: their expertise transformed a scenographic idea into a concrete, solid product... in other words, the object of desire!
- Who was Pollock designed for, and how do you envision its future product developments?
Pollock was designed for those who love emblematic design and want to bring an object into their spaces that can generate sociability, lightness, cheerfulness and elegance. Thanks to the endless customisation possibilities offered by altreforme, I imagine the project being developed in new variations and adapted to international hospitality and contract contexts, until it becomes a recognised symbol of style and functionality.
